| Description | The existing Westridge Midde School facility currently supports a student body of approximately 1,100. This will be replaced with a new set of building on the same campus. Included in the new facility will be a three-story classroom building, a two-story Administration and Media Center, new Music and Band Rooms, Skills Labs (ncluding Dance Studios, Technologies Exploration Lab, and an Art Lab). A new kitchen and dining room will also be provided. Connecting all of these areas together will be a three-story atrium. The existing Gymnasium will have new locker room facilities add to support this area and the new HVAC plant and electrical energy center will be located adjacent to this building. The existing Gym will undergo extensive renovations including structural upgrades to the building to create a hardened hurricane shelter along with raising the roof structure to make this a competition level facility. In additions all interior finishes will be revised. New construction will be approximately 140,000 square feet and the renovation will comprise 26,000 square feet. The school is targeted as a magnet school for this area. Following completion of the new school in October 2012, the existing school will be used as a swing school for a near by elementary school scheduled for complete replacement. Following the swing school year the old building will be demolished and the track and out door play fields will be added. |
