| Description | This 35,000 square foot teaching facility for the College of Engineering houses the Particle Science and Technology Program. The building contains six fully equipped laboratories, and a 5,000 square foot Characterization, Research Instrumentation and Test bed facility. It is also equipped with unique requirements such as vibration isolation components. Located next to the Engineering Building, it is home to the largest, most comprehensive particle science center in the nation. The program was funded by the National Science Foundation to study particles as large as a grain of sand and as small as a dust particle split into 25 pieces. The center’s primary mission is to perform research on these particles and share the results with private companies, which in turn hope to use the technologies in such real-world applications as computer screens, drug delivery systems and water filters. |
