Shands Hospital at Starke

Owner/Client Shands Hospitals and Clinics
Location Starke, FL
Project Size 27,500 gross square feet
Construction Cost $4,854,841
Description

This important project for the City of Starke began with the demolition of an existing single-story portion of the hospital that was built in 1956 and was followed by the construction of a new single-story structural steel addition with a second story mechanical penthouse. Staging was an important element of this project as the existing facility had to maintain full operation while the new structure was being built. The new facility encompassed 27,500 square feet of space for clinical and community services.

Hospital administration believed that the hospital should be a key element in the life of the community and provide more than just a health care destination for the citizens. The conference rooms and lobby are available to the community, while the dining room is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The addition is home to the relocated doctor's clinic, with four doctor's offices and twelve exam rooms, administrative offices, a medical records department, a 24-hour laboratory, central receiving and storage, the engineering department and a replacement of the existing kitchen and dining room.

Modifications were also made to the existing and new additions of HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, lighting, electrical services, fire protection, site work, site utilities, parking and landscaping.
